Polo School Dropout

Say welcome home to Kas---who can officially call herself a "polo school dropout".

Kas got sent to polo school last fall when I realized I had no real plan for a 3-year-old Thoroughbred filly who was rather on the short and narrow side. Too small for me personally to want to ride and way, way too young to be considered for Evie, I thought I found the perfect solution via polo...a sport that actually seeks out short Thoroughbred mares.

And so Kas has spent the last 7 months learning about polo. The first reports were heartening--she had no fear of the stick or ball and was as easy-going as can be whatever new circumstance they put her into. But that chilled out attitude eventually got her in trouble.

Polo is a sport of speed and requires a horse willing to lay it down and really run when asked. While Kas was happy to jog along after the ball, she had zero interest in anything resembling real work. Getting her to really gallop was more work for the rider than what she was putting out.  And so after many attempts to convince her to actually "try", she flunked out of polo school and came home.

And so now I have to find a job for her...and while a few months away has definitely added some height and width to her frame (and now know she may actually be the rare young Thoroughbred that might make a youth horse someday sooner rather than later), I really have no idea what we'll do with her!  Ideas are welcome. 😑

In the meantime, Kas walked off the trailer like she never left and ignored Cody's pathetic whinnies in the same style she always has.
