The Old Grey Mare

Lilly Frost arrived here a year ago today. 

This is still my favorite photo of Lilly and Evie. I haven't owned many mares in my life but it's funny how both Kas and Lilly seem to feel Evie is their "baby" and go out of their way to take care of her. This is especially so with Lilly who won't even let the other horses come near Evie if we are in the pasture. When Evie rides her, Lilly still takes care of her every moment she is in the saddle. Evie couldn't be growing up with a better mount!

So I think it's worth putting a PSA announcement out there that just because a mare spent a good portion of her life producing babies it doesn't mean they can't have their own "second career". Give those older, former broodmares a chance..,.you might be surprised at just how lucky you get!
