The Animal Swap

Our weekend plans took several twists and turns this week and ultimately ended up with me and Evie having a whole, completely unplanned weekend together.

Somehow, this ended with us (along with nephew Ethan) all ended up taking a mini-road trip over the Platte for their annual "One of a Kind" sale...also known as selling all the animals that don't quite fit the title of either "livestock" or "pets".

We perused pen after pen filled with everything from llamas to exotic-pigs to every kind of poultry under the sun. I purposely took only our Honda Civic to cut down on any temptation to bring back animals we absolutely DID NOT NEED (like the nearly 100 bred mini-donkeys selling from a farm dispersal).

I was somehow able to bypass the overwhelming temptation to take home babydoll sheep, incredibly cute baby goats and even walked away from adding some pigs to our herd but I could not stop myself from succumbing to Evie's pleading for a bunny. She has been asking one for months but we never actually had to face the temptation before today. And since the chickens recently vacated their old pen (which is a perfect ultimate bunny chateau), I had no defenses left.

And so we brought home a bunny...well, two bunnies....well, actually, 2 (plus) bunnies because well, um, one of them is supposed to have baby bunnies here in a few weeks.

Oh, and we may have also brought a $5 rooster named Walter home in the Honda, but that's a story for another day...
