Donkey Bellies-Chapter 3

The "are they" or "aren't they" donkey drama continues...

I just got off the phone with the donkey breeder from whom I acquired these old gals. She reiterated what she told me the day I bought them, namely that they both just seem to have really big bellies and always seem to look rather pregnant. She still feels strongly they are not likely to be in-foal.

That said, she also confirmed that these two donkeys did, in fact, run with her jack from May 2 through August 1 of las...t year. She confirmed they cycled and were covered by the jack at least once that she saw. She also confirmed that the other jennies who ran with him were in-foal.

However, she added that these two girls have been running with a jack every summer for years and Raven has not foaled since 2004 and Tori since 2007.

BUT, and this is a big but, there was indeed a major change in her herd last summer---she bought a NEW jack.

So, was their new paramour more fertile?

Did he have bigger, sexier donkey ears?

Did he promise them a big house in the suburbs, a new Tahoe and family vacations in the Poconos if they would just agree to bear his children?

Time will only tell and until something else happens, one can only wonder what goes on behind these big sad donkey eyes....
